PocketWizard Photo of the Month Contest - April 2013

1060PHOTO_CONTEST_LOGO_150x104.jpg April’s Photo of the Month Contest theme was Outdoor Wildlife photography taken with a remote camera.  Working with a remote camera allows you to get up close to a scenario you normally wouldn’t be able to achieve if the camera was in your hands.  We received some great images and we narrowed it down to ten semi-finalists and our winners were chosen by a PocketWizard judging panel.

OVERALL WINNER:
Austin Thomas, Merseyside, United Kingdom - www.austin-thomas.co.uk.
Austin has won a MiniTT1 & FlexTT5 for Canon, two remote camera cables and a G-Wiz Vault bag.

Austin Thomas, based out of North East England, is this month’s photo contest winner with his image of a Starling Bird.  He triggered a FlexTT5 attached to a remote camera via a MiniTT1 Transmitter in the hot shoe of a camera in his hands.  His goal was to take two images at the same time.

Austin took up photography in 2007 knowing very little about shooting. Being a nature and bird enthusiast in order to help with the identification of birds, he decided that images would be the best way to learn.  He purchased his first DSLR and the rest is history, as they say.  Austin shoots with a Canon 1D Mark IV and 1 DX with Canon lenses ranging from 16 mm to 800 mm. His favorite things to shoot are pretty broad, but simply speaking, “anything that moves”.

Austin’s level of patience has surely been tested through his semi-professional photography career.  Recently, having visited a specific location in England known for a Short Eared Owl, he waited three months for a specific shot of the owl.  He has had several images appear in the BBC Wildlife Magazine and been featured on BBC for his experiences shooting in Kenya, Africa.
