March 25, 2009

As announced earlier this month, there are several upgrades and features coming soon in a firmware release.  We are in the final testing stages of the new firmware and expect it to be ready for rollout on or about March 31st.

This update adds product capability photographers have been asking for; new “Simple Trigger Mode” which allows using the MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 as standard PocketWizard radios with most cameras, and “FP Sync Override” which enables full range HyperSync at shutter speeds up to 1/8000 with capable studio flash units.  This update also addresses and fixes operating issues that have been found and listed here:

  • Canon 430EX flash triggering problems
  • Canon 1Ds MKIII shifting down in shutter speed to 1/200th periodically while shooting
  • 580EX/580EX II Custom Functions set issues
  • FlexTT5 Relay mode lockup
Photographers with product purchased prior to this release should update their units, which can be done simply by using the USB interface and the PocketWizard Utility.  Upgrading instructions will be posted on our web-site with the release, and the Maintenance section of the Utility will provide on-screen instructions.

The PocketWizard Utility has also been updated to support the new features, and Utility version 1.18 will be available for download from PocketWizard.com next week.   Instructions for download will be posted at that time.

We have paused shipments of new products to make sure they are shipped with the latest firmware already loaded in. New product shipments will resume next week on release of the new firmware.
