Welcome to the PocketWizard beta lab. In the beta lab, you get to play with ControlTL or MultiMAX* firmware and features currently being developed and assist us in the final stages before a “Final Release” is available. Anyone can participate in the beta lab but you should be very comfortable using the PocketWizard Utility and willing and able to provide detailed feedback of your experiences using the beta firmware. If that’s you, then follow the steps below to begin your own beta test.
CURRENT BETA'S
ControlTL: The current ControlTL MiniTT1 / FlexTT5 beta firmware is version 5.008. This beta addresses the following:
- Pre-Flash boost Mode under exposing has been corrected
- Further optimized radio signal timing
- Improved error correction around pre-flash data

MultiMAX: The current MultiMAX beta firmware is v7.35 (build 12). This beta has several new features including:
- Long Range Mode for remote camera triggering
- Close Range Mode for close distance triggering
- Custom ID Move – put custom ID’s on any frequency
- Multi-Zone Receive
- Signal Strength Indicator – shows noise level and triggering strength
- Hot Shoe Disable Mode
- Noise Sniffer – find the clearest channel easily
- Repeater Mode – deploy more radios for extreme range needs

Only MultiMAX's with a USB port can load this firmware.
We need your FEEDBACK on the beta firmware should be sent to PocketWizard via the “Inquires Form” on our “Contact” page or simply email them to betalab@pocketwizard.com and put "beta" in the subject line.
Updates to the Beta Lab will be posted to our facebook page.
UTILITY
To see and run the beta firmware you must be using PocketWizard Utility version 1.18.9. 1.18.9 is also a beta release and can be downloaded by clicking the appropriate platform type here:
Follow your normal application installing procedures for your system.
HOW TO FIND THE BETA VERSION FIRMWARE
When you are running beta version 1.18.9 do the following to begin beta testing the newest firmware:
Open the PocketWizard Utility, plug in your MiniTT1, FlexTT5 or MultiMAX and click the “Maintenance” tab
At the lower right, click the small gear icon, which will jump you to the PocketWizard Utility Settings screen.

On the settings screen, click “yes, I would like to be a beta tester” then click “OK”

Back on the Maintenance page, click “Check For Updates”
The “Firmware Updates Available” screen will appear. If there is a beta firmware available, it will appear on this screen (there will be times when there are no current beta releases). Click “Download ALL Files” (or, if you prefer, just select the files you want) then click “Download Now”

Once the files are downloaded, the Utility will show only the firmware available for the radio currently plugged in and will ask if you wish to update your radio to either the current "Official Release" or latest beta version. Click the beta release version and then click “OK” and continue through the update process. You are now beta testing.

For a beta program to to be of value to us in improving the PocketWizard ControlTL firmware, we need feedback on your experiences with testing the beta firmware. Feedback can include your opinion of overall functionality or any bugs or issues you may have encountered. When providing feedback, the more detail you can provide the better.
Please ALWAYS include the following:
- beta firmware release version number
- Camera being used (brand & model #)
- Flashes being used(brand & model #)
- PocketWizard models being used
If possible, the following information would also be useful but is not required:
- Camera settings
- Flash settings
- Location information (indoor, outdoor)
- Any potential radio interference sources
- Anything else that may help us understand your photo environment and situation.
- Computer system info
- Best way to contact you should follow-up be necessary

* Only MultiMAX's with a USB port are capable of downloading firmware. Some older MultiMAX units do not have a USB port.
